Matthew E. Miller CPA, MBA
Matt has enjoyed a career in public accounting since 1983. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Accounting from Radford University, Masters in Business Administration from George Mason University and a certification in Business Studies from Oxford University. Matt is the firm’s chief strategist. He is responsible for developing client tax strategies and compliance monitoring, evaluating entity structures and operational efficiencies for business clients, and assisting with building advisory teams.
Prior to founding Miller Consulting Group in October 1998, Matt held the position of Chief Financial Officer for a regional building material supply company. As part of a talented leadership group, Matt managed the financial aspects of the company as it realized significant growth through organic means as well as targeted merger & acquisition opportunities. During that period, Matt developed his conservative approach to growth and fiscal management. He and his accounting team designed, tested, and implemented accounting processes, controls, and procedures, laying a foundation for the company to become a major competitor in the industry.
After leaving the company, Matt served a term as the Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Matt’s passion in business consulting is strategic planning. The thrill of planned business execution runs deep in his accounting veins. A dedicated team player, Matt enjoys collaborative engagements with other like-minded professionals who can survey a situation, develop a solution-oriented strategy, and then drive flawless execution. Be it the opportunity for simple operations planning, a complex tax strategy, a start-up opportunity, or a strategic exit, Matt engages with passion, balance, and open-mindedness.
Outside of work, Matt and his wife, Peggi, enjoy spending time with their three adult children. An active volunteer, Matt is the former president of Fairfax Little League (Dominion League) and former treasurer of Robinson High School Athletic Boosters. He has also spent time behind the microphone announcing high school lacrosse. Matt serves on the Executive Council for the College of Business and Economics at Radford University and is a member of the Accounting Advisory Council at George Mason University. He previously sat on a regional Advisory Board for BB&T prior to the bank’s merger with SunTrust Bank. Matt is a longtime member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA). Matt has served on the Professional Ethics Committee of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants since 2017. Matt holds a General Securities Representative license and is an Investment Advisor Representative.
Occasionally, he finds time to play a round of golf!!!
Sharan K. Sawhney CPA
Sharan has been practicing public accounting since graduating from George Mason University in May 2008. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, both from GMU.
Her career began at Miller Consulting Group, LLC as an intern in 2007. After graduation, Sharan worked as an auditor for Grant Thornton, LLP. She returned to Miller Consulting Group, LLC as a full time employee in 2009. Sharan obtained her CPA license in March 2010. She has also recently became an Investment Advisor Representative.
She works primarily on individual income tax returns and tax planning as well as responding to IRS and state tax notices and requests.
In her spare time, Sharan enjoys attending pilates and boxing classes. She also enjoys baking which has earned her the job of being the designated birthday treat baker in the office. Her treats are amazing!!!
Fred C. Krause III EA
Fred has been practicing accounting for more than 35 years and has been with Miller Consulting Group since 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in the field of Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is an IRS Enrolled Agent. He specializes in accounting and tax for Businesses (partnerships, S Corps, C Corps), Single Member LLC’s, Individuals, Trusts and Estates. He works closely with our clients to design accounting systems, develop internal controls procedures, and monitor client compliance. Fred’s experience includes providing accounting and tax services to a wide range of clients and industries included retail trade, consulting, and government contracting.
Fred enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as catching up on any of his favorite sport teams from Pittsburgh.
Manjot “Manny” Grewal CPA
Manny is a licensed CPA and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from George Mason University. Manny began her accounting profession in 2014 as an intern at Miller Consulting Group and now has over 10 years of experience providing tax and accounting services. She primarily works on individual income tax returns and has nuanced expertise building personalized tax planning strategies for her clients. Manny enjoys getting to know her clients so she can offer the best advice possible.
Manny resides in northern Virginia with her husband and two children. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. Her favorite places she has visited are Switzerland and The Maldives.
Melanie Hou CPA
Melanie Hou joined MCG in October 2015. Before joining the firm, she worked for both regional and local CPA firms in Virginia.
Melanie specializes in working with small businesses, government contractors, and nonprofit organizations in the areas of tax compliance, research, planning and analysis for high-net-worth individuals and related businesses, retirement planning for small businesses and the owners, research and planning for complex tax credit and tax deferral strategies, business start-up consultation; compilation and review level of assurance services, preparation of personal financial statements; FAR compliance and cost accounting; outsourced controller and accounting advisory services. Over the years, she’s also been providing income tax planning and preparation services to American citizens and business owners, as well as foreign nationals living in Asia and Europe.
As part of the Firm’s compliance committee, she has been assisting with the Firm’s quality control and peer review processes.
She holds a Master of Accountancy degree from West Virginia University, awarded in December 2006, and is a licensed CPA in the state of Virginia with 18 years of experience in public accounting. She also maintains the designation of Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA). She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, reading, and doing yoga, as well as traveling with her husband and two daughters. She also enjoys volunteering for her daughters’ swim teams.
Emily Irving
Emily is a 2011 graduate of George Mason University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. Prior to graduation, she joined MCG as an intern. As a full-time staff accountant with MCG from 2012 through 2018, Emily developed a broad range of experience and specialized in individual income tax. In 2018, Emily switched careers to private accounting where she was promoted from Senior Accountant to Controller at Health Communications, Inc. (Formally the TIPS Program). In 2021, Emily took on the lead position to complete a due diligence process for interested buyers. Emily worked closely with the company and the buyers through the entire merger and acquisition period. She also gained years of experience with processing payroll and filing state and jurisdiction compliance taxes in all 50 states.
In 2022, Emily returned to the MCG family. While she missed working with the MCG team, she also really missed working directly with clients providing tax and accounting services. It is rewarding for her to help clients find tax savings, financial opportunities, and most of all to help lessen tax and accounting-related stress. She also assists with tax planning, state compliance, and outsourced accounting/bookkeeping services. Emily enjoys a challenge and the constant learning that is gained from working in the accounting field.
In her free time, Emily loves spending time with her husband, two sons, two dogs, and one cat. Emily volunteers with ANSLL and has managed her son’s baseball team from tee ball through coach pitch. She also enjoys playing golf and has set a goal to get out and play more than once or twice a year.
Sheryl Quarterman
Sheryl has worked for Miller Consulting Group for over 20 years. In addition to keeping our office running smoothly, Sheryl is charged with the management of the Human Resources function for our clients. She also performs bookkeeping duties. Sheryl’s knowledge and organizational skills are essential in the day-to-day operations of Miller Consulting Group and offer tremendous value to our clients.
In her spare time, she enjoys bird watching, hiking, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her family. Sheryl has two sons, two daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren.
